Wagering requirements explained
What is a wagering requirement?
It is the amount you have to bet before you can withdraw a bonus, or the winnings from it. A 40x requirement on a €100 bonus means you must place €4,000 in bets first.
Is wagering the same as losing money?
No. Wagering is the total of all your bets, including bets you win. If you bet €10 and win €10 back, you have still wagered €10. But the longer you play, the more the house edge works against you, so a high requirement makes it less likely you will keep the bonus.
Bonus only, or deposit plus bonus?
This doubles the amount for the same headline:
| Offer | Applies to | Calculation | Amount to wager |
|---|---|---|---|
| €400 bonus, 40x | Bonus only | 40 × €400 | €16,000 |
| €400 bonus, 40x | Deposit + bonus | 40 × (€400 + €400) | €32,000 |
Always check which one the terms say.
What is an “unlock” bonus?
Some casinos, such as Lysa Casino and Joki Casino, release the bonus as cash only after you have wagered a set amount with your own money. You play with real money first, and the bonus is paid out when you reach the target.
Do all games count?
Usually not. Most casinos in our list count slots at 100% and table games and live casino at 0%. Some slots may be excluded as well.
What is a maximum bet?
The largest single bet allowed while a bonus is active, often €5. Going over it can cancel the bonus and any winnings.
Are wager-free free spins really free?
The winnings do not need to be wagered, but they are often capped. Several casinos in our list cap free spin winnings at €1,000 per stage.
How long do I have?
It varies. Some casinos in our list give 48 hours, others three days. If the time runs out, the bonus and its winnings are removed.
Should I take a bonus at all?
You do not have to. Playing without a bonus means no wagering requirement and no maximum bet. If you do take one, choose the one whose terms you understand, not the one with the biggest headline.
